PRESENTATIONS

A 2-in-1 Scottish Sea Kayak Evening

(with Simon WIllis)

The regional premier of the DVD every sea-kayaker wants in their Christmas stocking, Sea Kayak with Gordon Brown.  Plus the inside story on Scotland’s Inside Passage, the new Scottish Sea Kayak Trail.  We feature two multi-media presentations in one evening by the man behind them both.  The DVD and book will be on sale at a specially reduced price.

Sea Kayak with Gordon Brown is a coaching DVD like no other.  Eight coaching sessions with one of the UK’s top instructors lie at the heart of the production.  Beginners and intermediates develop firm foundations, then progress through forward paddling, into turning, steering, tidal race paddling and eventually rock hopping in the roughest conditions.

The coaching is mixed with the story of a four-day voyage by a group of kayakers along the exposed west coast of the Isle of Skye.  Under magnificent Cuillin mountain views they explore caves, sea stacks and five thousand year old settlements.

Our regional premier is a thirty-five minute film, featuring highlights from the DVD.  It was shot, edited and co-presented by former BBC video journalist Simon Willis, who reveals some of the innovative filming techniques – like how to cling to a rock and an expensive video camera when waves are breaking over your head.

The Scottish Sea  Kayak Trail is a Pesda Press guidebook, describing a 300 mile route up Scotland’s west coast.  From the Isle of Gigha off the Kintyre peninsular, to the Summer Isles near Ullapool, the route can be tackled in four holiday-sized sections or as one long, glorious journey.

With broadcast quality video and photographs, guidebook author Simon Willis steers us along the trail, exploring its history and wildlife, and the environmental impact sea kayakers make on this stunning coastline.

In November 2008 I gave a series of evening presentations in north west England.

The first part was a celebration of the west coast of Scotland, with video and music, giving the background to the Scottish Sea Kayak Trail.

The second part showed how we filmed key parts of the DVD Sea Kayak with Gordon Brown, discussed what equipment works well for taking video of sea kayaking, and showed some highlights from the finished DVD.  The video below is how I promoted the event.

If your canoe / kayak club might like such an evening, please drop e-mail me to discuss fees.  Bear in mind travelling from Ardnamurchan can be quite a long way!
