PRESENTATIONS

A 2-in-1 Scottish Sea Kayak Evening

* How we shot the triple award winning DVD Sea Kayak with Gordon Brown

* Plus the inside story on Scotland’s Inside Passage, the new Scottish Sea Kayak Trail.

Two multi-media presentations in one evening are presented by the man behind them both, Simon Willis.

Both the DVD and book will be on sale at a specially reduced price.

Sea Kayak with Gordon Brown is a coaching DVD like no other.  Which explains why it won ‘Best Instructional Film 2010’ at three international film festivals.

Eight coaching sessions with one of the UK’s top instructors lie at the heart of the production.  Beginners and intermediates develop firm foundations, then progress through forward paddling, into turning, steering, tidal race paddling and eventually rock hopping in the roughest conditions.

The coaching is mixed with the story of a four-day voyage by a group of kayakers along the exposed west coast of the Isle of Skye.  Under magnificent Cuillin mountain views they explore caves, sea stacks and five thousand year old settlements.

I can show a 19 minute or 35 minute film featuring highlights from the DVD which I shot, edited and co-presented.

I’ll reveal some of the innovative filming techniques - like how to cling to a rock and an expensive video camera when waves are breaking over your head.

The Scottish Sea  Kayak Trail is a Pesda Press guidebook, describing a 300 mile route up Scotland’s west coast.

From the Isle of Gigha off the Kintyre peninsular, to the Summer Isles near Ullapool, the route can be tackled in four holiday-sized sections or as one long, glorious journey.

With broadcast quality video and photographs, I’ll steers the audience along the trail, exploring its history and wildlife, and questioning environmental impact we sea kayakers make on this stunning coastline.

My most recent presentation was for Tyne Valley Canoe Club in Northumberland (read my blog entry).  Despite it being a lovely, sunny evening, more than fifty people turned out for the two-part presentation.

The first part is usually a celebration of Scotland’s west coast, with video and music, guiding the audience through the history, wildlife and fantastic seascape of the Scottish Sea Kayak Trail.

The second part shows highlights from the award winning DVD Sea Kayak with Gordon Brown.  It features stunning footage from a four day voyage along the magnificent west coast of the Isle of Skye, mixed with Gordon’s superb coaching.  I explain how we shot the DVD, giving tips and advice for photographers and videographers, before showing some of the raw footage which definitely did not make the finished film.

The video below is part of a publicity package with which I can help you to promote the event.

So if your canoe / kayak club might like such an evening, please send me an e-mail to discuss fees - I’m really cheap.  Although bear in mind travelling to and from Ardnamurchan uses quite a lot of petrol, even in my wee car.
